DECEMBER 2011         AHA HUI O NA MAKA’I  HAUOLA – H.P.D. RETIREES

Our December meeting was successfully held at the Maple Gardens Restaurant on Isenberg street,0 across the old Stadium.  There was a cancellation of speakers from the mainland and a “full” at the Tree Top.  Appreciate the response of Maple Gardens so, next meeting will also be there. Limited space for 70 and will monitor. Don’t worry, if full, Officers agreed to eat in parking lot.

NEXT MEETING

Scheduled for Wednesday February 8, 2012 at the Maple Garden, good assisted parking on premises.  Board members status will be discussed at a special Board meeting with results presented to membership

OPEN DISCUSSIONS

Concerns from some members were presented to those in attendance.  A very fulfilling and participatory discussion followed. There were no limitations and the members responded. Different concerns were addressed and open discussion followed. Everyone in attendance was giving an opportunity as we went from table to table.

MEMBERSHIP was a concern to some and conclusion was to keep it as is, open to all who want to be part of our Ohana.

POLITICAL

Activity addressed and agreement more of us should get involved. Identification of our organization be made

Clearly.  Active participation at hearings and meetings advised.  Presently it is an informal committee. A Board appointed

committee will be formed shortly.

HPD LIAISON

More involvement with HPD and recognition of our organization highly recommended.  A meeting is being arranged to meet with Chief Kealoha to assist us in working together as an Ohana.  Member Bruce Puhl retired New York City PD discussed how effective the East Coast departments kokua, assist, and acknowledge, especially with the recognition and gratitude for retirees who served all those years.  The mainland and many countries acknowledge the gratitude of their community for the commitment and dedication of Law Enforcement personnel.  Unfortunately that has not been the situation in Hawaii.  Perhaps because of the “local” Eh, no talk!” or “No Brag Ah!”, Be Humble!

COMMUNITY KOKUA

An effort is being made to structure the retirees willing to kokua in times of emergency or major events.  The concept is to present individuals not necessarily for Law Enforcement concerns but community as well, where needed.  Many members have expressed their support for such a group.

BOARD STRUCTURE CONCERNS

Some members concerns of membership, structure of Board and activities were presented. Very active response from those in attendance. After lengthy discussions it was decided that the status quo was fine.  Only proposal not questioned was the TERM of office. A one year term was suggested and strongly recommended

MEMORIES ARE ----

Made of This!  Please share with us some of the OLD photos from our careers as we approach the SENIOR era.

MAHALO MEMBERS

A very special Mahalo to these members who attended the meeting.  My apologies again for some of the confusion and contacts (or lack of). Information for mail out was not readily available, but with kokua from Bertha’s files a mail out was done.  Up until the morning of the meeting,   a male called, WHEA THIS?  He got there in time and had double servings. (Phew)

Sometimes my eyes and hands no jive.

HALF OR WHOLE?

We need your kokua in increasing our attendance at meetings.  If we can get half of the last attendance or double it would be great. It is hard to bring half a person, so we should each try to bring one more person to our February meeting on February 8, 1100 at Maple Gardens. As you can see in the list of attendees, several wives and guests attended. Perhaps you can bring your other three fourts.  The spouses and guests seem to enjoy the “female”  comrade “non-police  discussions.
