It is a new year and also the last year for present Board of Directors. Hope all went well with each of you.
The first year was very challenging for members on the Board and the membership in general. Emphasis must be made that the Board and General membership have asked that Sales presentations and solicitations of members for other causes be discouraged and not presented to general membership at our meeting.
HPD KOKUA
A meeting was held in early January with Chief Kealoha and Deputy McCauley. As President of Hui Ana O Maka'i Hauola along with Lloyd Faulkner and Jeff Yamashita, we presented our desire to work with HPD to foster an "OHANA" relationship with members of HPD. The Chief adn Deputy were very coopertative and assured us of their support. Jeff Yamashita shall be our liaison with HPD.
The Chief expressed his plans and concerns of the Police Museum. Requested kokua by retirees to assist in giving tours to students and members of the public. His hope is to someday turn the whole operation over to a non-HPD organization. HPD Lt. Robert Cravalho preseenlty assigned to the museum (A Hui Ana Member) has excellent ideas and was very enthusiastic when informed of our meeting with #1. He will be making a presentation at our February meeting.
NO FOAA GIFT!
I know some of you have, so this is a reminder that our next Hui meeting is scheduled for Wednesday Feb 8, 2012 11:00 at Maple Gardens on Isenberg St. (next to St. Louis Alumni Clubhouse) Great Kau Kau!

Nah just kidding. I wen pass um. Brother Faulkner also creating a list of those insterested in voluteering for his committee on community service.
LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
The Legislature is still in session. However our lobbyist Charlie Duncan and Karen Lum asked that you be prepared to respond if we need to show solidarity as retirees, to the legislators. If you have the time or the interest to go down and call a legislator, the BILLS we are monitoring are HB 1041 adn SB 1268. Many of you have stated a major interest in those bills. Call your Representative and Senator and let them know!
EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING
An Executive Board Meeting was held on Jan 12, 2012 with current issues discussed. Security of the Hui Ana O Maka'i Hauola has been replaced due to ill health. HPD RETIREE'S DISASTER ASSISTANCE HUI KOKUA OHANA
Although briefly mentioned earlier as the Kokua Ohana, this major contribution to the City deserves further discussion. Lloyd "Brother" Faulkner is spearheading efforts Chief Kealoha and Deputy Chief McCauley have given their support to the effort. It will not be quick and easy, but the effort and results will be well worth the effort. All participants will need to register and clearance from HPD. We will initiate this at our next meeting.
Due to some clerical concerns, information on members is limited. At present only those who have paid their dues ($15 yr) are on our mailing list. My apologies, but we ARE getting there. The Disaster Assistance Hui efforts are to assist basically during National Disasters. It would not be "Police work". Basically assistance in the way of answering phones, or helping with odd duties, ie; traffic control or clerical. This primarily would free the beat officer from those tasks during a natural disaster ie; hurricane, tsunami. The Department has made better persons of all of us. And we could give something back. This is only if you are physically able to and it may never happen but we will be prepared and READY TO GO!!
Your comments and advice greatly appreciated!
Any old (ah current ones too!) photos? autos? uniform events etc.
